The rule the flags do not tell you
Whatever the flag says, the Intendencia advises against swimming for roughly 48 hours after heavy rain. Runoff carries the contamination, and the sample that produced this morning’s green flag may have been taken before the storm. When there has been rain in the past two days, we say so at the top of this page and the flags below should be read with that in mind.
A red flag means the sample exceeded the bathing-water standard. It is not a legal ban and nobody will stop you, but it is a real measurement of a real thing.
